Escalera Strip Mall
Location: Sampaloc, Manila City
Designed in: 2nd Term | A.Y. 2022-2023

The strip mall is inspired from Manila's Spanish colonial architectural heritage. The use of Bahay na Bato, and Arkitekturang Mestiza elements pays tribute to the ingenuity of combating natural calamities and adapting to the local climate.

The style features wood and stone elements, the ground floor of the mall is arcaded in concrete and the second floor's arcades are out of wood and bamboo paying and its overhands provide a nod to the Bahay na Bato's traditional "azotea" providing a scenic view of the surroundings.
The ground floor features a more solid and heavy form while the upper floor built with light wooden materials provide a more airy atmosphere while promoting natural ventilation.
