BalTEx Balintawak Transport Exchange

The design for this transport terminal is based around the bolo/Tabak, which is a tool used by farmers and trailblazers to cut vegetation and traverse jungles and is an iconic weapon brandished by Andres Bonifacio and the KKK during the Philippine Revolution and the “Cry of Pugad Lawin” where it had taken place in Balintawak.

Folklore about Balintawak’s name came from the word Balin-Tabak, a sword dance from Indonesia taught and practiced by early community settlers. As the Spaniards arrived, the local chieftain and the community welcomed them and greeted them with a dance. When the Spaniards asked what the place was called, they answered Balintawak as they thought they were asked what the name of the dance was. As time passed, the name slowly became what we know today as “Balintawak.”
